Project Introduction

The CSC Group always endeavors to pursue sustainable business with energy savings and environmental friendly production methods. The CSC W5 Blast Furnace Gas Pipeline and Sight Glass Valve Renewal Project was executed by the CSMC under planning and supervision of the client’s W5/W6; the work site was handed over for production on January 5th 2023 (construction started on January 3rd 2023), the large-scale gas pipeline renewal was accomplished in less than 3 working days, setting a solid foundation of pipeline renewal projects.
The CSC makes sufficient use of fuel gas by-products. CSMS demonstrated excellent EPCC capabilities in December 2016 when fulfilling the turn-key project of the CSC W5 Blast Furnace Gas Storage Tank as specified, for incorporating into furnace gas pipeline system, so that reusable fuel gas (also known as Blast-Furnace Gas, BFG) produced along the furnace production can be sufficiently recycled to stabilize system pressure in the furnace gas pipeline and to reduce energy consumption. Regarding corrosion/maintenance of the utility pipeline, if the entire pipeline was renewed, all the upstream and downstream machines must be stopped and the working period is pressing; not to mention the large size of pipes that may result in hoist limitations and road blocking as well as machine shut down risks and power outage inconveniences; therefore partial repair, rust removal and paint touch-ups were mainly adopted in the past for tackling pipeline rust issues.
Being better is preferred than being good. As engineering experiences accumulate over the years, under CSC’s W5 planning and W634 method directions, the CSMS work team was encouraged by a meticulous and thorough work plan to replace the entire pipeline for the first time in January 2023; coordinating with scheduled annual repair period of the blast furnace and converter, W5 gas pipeline and sight glass valves were renewed within 60 hours; this has also set out a new pace for pipeline renewal. The CSMC Group sufficiently demonstrated teamwork spirit in implementing the project: overcame issues one by one in a limited time window, which included the dispatch of large amounts of manpower, professional welders, large scale construction machines, and widespread work areas [scaffolding area up to 7,186m2, large welding diameters (up to 150”), 11 installation openings], and challenging tempo, mental and physical pressures. The job was accomplished as scheduled and specified with zero incidents: a rusted BFG pipeline in 3.8M diameter and 210M length, 14 pipe supports, 2 Sight Glass Valves of 1.8M diameter, and 9 expansion joints of 1M long in versatile diameters of 3.8M, 3.4M and 2.8M. Renewal of multiple items was smoothly accomplished and handed over to the site ahead of schedule, releasing the pressure of the production site on the energy dispatch and lack of operating power.
Growth depends on technology rooting, and corporate culture and value of the CSMC can only be therefore embodied. Once again the CSMC demonstrated its capabilities in Heavy Equipment Manufacture and Project Planning and Integration. We expect to further collaborate with CSC W5 and W6 in the future for taking large steps towards the journey of pipeline renewal; we shall do the best in stabilizing CSC production as well as in uplifting its energy saving benefits.

The CSMC accomplished the renewal of CSC W5 Blast Furnace Gas Pipeline and Sight Glass Valve.
