When the Taiwan Railway TEMU1000(Taroko) stops at the platform, there will be a considerable distance between the aisle floor of the carriage and the platform. Because there is a height difference between the original factory’s movable steps and the floor of the carriage, this increases the risk of passengers tripping and makes it difficult for wheelchairs and baby trolleys to pass.

In order to improve the safety and convenience of passengers getting on and off the train, Engineer Liu Cheng-en of the CSMC Design Office worked diligently and went all out. After many proposals and understanding the actual needs of Taiwan Railways, he designed a new movable step that can satisfy the minimum modification for the vehicle model TEMU1000 and can meet the step-free function when the inclined carriage is stopping at the platform to help the young / the elderly and the disabled to easily get on and off the car.

This domestically-designed and modified movable step has passed the durability and load test of the test bench and has been conducted in actual operations all over Taiwan many times without passengers. It is confirmed that this modification plan can effectively reduce the gap between the carriage and the platform and it has also obtained the new patent No. M581074 - for the step mat device of rail vehicles, which shows its strength and actively responds to the environmental improvement for a friendly aging society.

CSMC management has specially awarded the highest honor of "Annual Best Proposal" to Engineer Liu and the beauty, touch and achievements after hard work are also the driving force for us to continue to develop and build dreams forward.
